Sam joined the civil service as a senior leader in November 2016. His decision to join followed a period of self-reflection and a desire to better connection with his motivators. Sam brings range of skills and expertise to the civil service following a 20-year career in chemical manufacturing, energy, water and nuclear sectors. He has drive and passion to make a difference in all he does and is motivated best when that drive results in supporting people and wider teams producing a positive result. Sam previously worked in as the buildings director in the Crown Commercial Service (CCS), which incorporated workplace and FM, construction and utilities and fuel. He moved the HO chief commercial officer role i in July 2020. Development of people and teams is core to Sam’s beliefs as a senior leader and strives to do this in a fair and transparent way, resulting in diverse and inclusive thoughts. He truly values difference and is keen to learn about others to complement his understanding of other experiences and lenses of the world. Sam is based in northwest England where he is an advocate for places for growth and chair of the northern commercial council that enables better integration and supports the best talent to grow in the civil service.
